Sigh. I love summer, especially now that I’m back in Michigan. Although I have to say that fall is my favorite season, my summers are spent traveling back and forth to northern Michigan to the lake house. It’s my favorite place in the entire world. Built by my great-great grandfather about 106 years ago, there’s so many amazing memories and nostalgia that surrounds the house. This past weekend was my last weekend up there for the season, I plan on going back in the fall as there’s nothing quite like the brilliant color of the leaves. But this was the last time for swimming, boating and all of the other summer water activities. Boo!
I made the most of it though! We got there Wednesday night and Thursday it was a bit cool, about 70 but sunny. We took Phyllis, the dog, for a long walk in the waterfront park. She’s such a good girl, she can go off the leash and doesn’t wander off. I spent the rest of the day curled up on the patio reading a book : ) Then I took a nap. It felt like such an indulgent day but it was great nonetheless.
Friday it warmed up into the 80s which made me very happy. Perfect boating weather! We visited the local farmer’s market in the morning and picked up some fresh fruit, bread and cheese to take out on the boat for lunch. Add a few ice cold beers to the mix and I was a happy camper : ) We stopped at the sandbar which is Phyllis’s favorite spot to go swimming. She loves to chase her ball through the water, wading and leaping, then she doggie paddles back with it. Super adorable. That evening, my boyfriend and I went to a town about 30 minutes away to one of our favorite waterfront restaurants. There’s a drawbridge and you can sit and watch all of the huge sailboats go in and out of Lake Michigan. We shared a bottle of wine and I had a salad and Walleye, which is one of my favorite fishes. On the way back home, we passed a local fair and decided to stop. I hadn’t been to a fair since I was a teenager and it was so much fun to be so spontaneous. We wasted money on cheesy games, looked at all of the farm animals, checked out all of the crap for sale, and had some ice cream. I don’t like the rides at carnivals, they always make me sick, so we skipped those.
Saturday we woke up early to go golfing. I enjoy golf but I’m not very good and I can only handle 9 holes, anymore than that and I think I’d get bored and frustrated. It was HOT on the course but I did pretty decent. For the first time, I made par on a hole : ) What an awesome feeling! I had some other great shots too. My boyfriend had a terrible game and was throwing his clubs farther than he was hitting the ball! He’s normally pretty good. Anyway, we went back to the house and I finished my book and went swimming with Phyllis. That night, we were invited over to my cousin’s house for a BBQ, they have a home about 8 houses down the street from ours. It was the perfect meal for the end of summer..burgers and veggie burgers, corn on the cob, potato salad, fruit, coleslaw, and ice cream with fresh peaches for dessert. My family likes their wine so we went through several bottles of vino. After the big meal, my man and I got our second wind and decided to go to the casino for some cocktails and people watching. I didn’t feel like gambling so we went into the bar and had a blast watching the bachelorette parties in progress. We were tired so we didn’t stay out too late.
Sunday was the last day which always depresses me. We took lunch out on the boat and just relaxed in the sun. Phyllis went swimming, of course : ) Then it was time to pack up and head home. I will admit to shedding a few tears. I do this every year.
So back to reality and back to work! Next week, I’m headed out to L.A. for a week to attend Adultcon and do some photo shoots. I’ll be there with Brianna Jordan, we’re staying together, so I’ll be in good, busty company! I’ll make sure to take tons of fun pics! Here’s a few photos of my trip, there will be more coming on the website in the next few weeks. XOXO!
